The weather could not have been better on the last Friday of December for several Posts from SMD to proudly carry our colors in the 2013 Military Bowl Parade held in Annapolis. Approximately 10,000 people lined the parade route and we were received warmly. Getting to that point took a lot of work, gaining support from several Posts from SMD.
Post 295 and Post 66, 86, 115, 136, 171, 217, 259, 295 and Heroes to Hometowns sponsored the transportation & attendance 10 warriors from Walter Reed.
Each Post that joined the effort received new members from it. Our booth was located inside the stadium near will call. The amount of traffic in the area was good, but our goal is to move to the “Military City” area to bring us closer to our target audience.
I hope we can build on this experience and show that getting out into the public can ensure our veteran population gets a better understanding that we are more than the bar down the road. Commit now to join us next year with a larger contingent to show our “colors” and continue the effort to build awareness of the great things The American Legion in accomplishing in Maryland.
