Thank you for your interest in becoming a Legionnaire
The American Legion was formed in 1919, with the help of Teddy Roosevelt Jr, at the time he stressed that our mission was "Principles not Politics." Our Legion family now totals more than 4 million members, that include Legionnaires, Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. The shear number
of members makes the American Legion “A Powerful Force.”
President Obama recently invited our National Commander Daniel Dellinger to a one-on-one meeting the Oval Office. National Commander Daniel Dellinger shared the Legion’s concerns on a variety of issues with President Barack Obama. The 20-minute meeting was part of a busy morning for Dellinger, who earlier spent an hour with Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. During the meeting with Obama, Dellinger said the pair discussed easing licensing and credentialing requirements for veterans, the White House’s Joining Forces initiative and the Legion’s role in reducing the VA claims backlog through promoting the use of fully developed claims.
National Commander Dellinger said he was told both by the president and Shinseki, “That if you all see anything … let us know and we will act on it. And as the president stated, we’re the boots on the ground. We’re out there every day and working hard for our veterans. He realizes that, and he thanks us for what The American Legion does for veterans.”
The value of your membership is more than taking the time to volunteer (if you have it), visiting a Post Home for camaraderie and beverages or using discounts provided by Sears, Apple or Dell.
The your membership ensures that The American Legion can continue the legacy of service to those veterans who came before us and will come after us…
